Hugh Black & Sons is a family-run butcher based in Bathgate, West Lothian, with 13 high street shops across central Scotland. Its head office, cutting plant, and factory are on the Whiteside Industrial Estate in Bathgate. Customers can also order online and collect from the shops.
The business sells Scotch beef, lamb, and pork, along with poultry, game, bacon, sausages, puddings, and haggis. It makes its own pastry products and also offers barbecue lines, deli items, groceries, and meat packs. Shops include Airdrie, Armadale, Cambuslang, Carluke, Coatbridge, Lanark, Linlithgow, Stirling, Whitburn, and Wishaw, with Fife branches in Cowdenbeath and Lochgelly.
The company dates from 1987, when Hugh Black Snr sold the family farm and bought a butcher shop in Armadale. His sons Craig and Hugh now run the business, which reports employing more than 140 people. In 2017 it bought Castlehill Farm near Lanark to supply its own lamb, and beef cattle are still bought weekly at local livestock markets.
