Sofant Technologies is an Edinburgh company developing satellite communication terminals for use on land, at sea, and in the air. Its head office is on Exchange Crescent in the city's Conference Square. The business is built around its own RF MEMS radio technology, which is designed to reduce power use and heat in phased array antennas.
The company's Ka-band terminals are designed to be passively cooled, switch beams quickly, and connect across low, medium, and geostationary orbit networks. Sofant uses a fabless model, relying on established manufacturing partners rather than its own production lines. It has tested antenna arrays at the Satellite Applications Catapult in Harwell and worked with Inmarsat Government on a phased array antenna for aircraft.
Sofant was incorporated in Scotland in 2011. In late 2025 it raised £6.25 million in a round led by EMV Capital, with participation from Scottish Enterprise and the National Security Strategic Investment Fund, to move from research and development towards commercial production. Will Whitehorn, formerly of Virgin Galactic, joined as chairman in December 2025.
