GLITCHERS is an Edinburgh games studio that designs games to generate behavioural and health data, with a particular focus on cognitive and brain health. The studio is based in Leith and works across healthcare, research, and education.
Its best-known title is Sea Hero Quest, a spatial navigation game launched with Deutsche Telekom that has been used in dementia research. The studio says it has been played in 195 countries. GLITCHERS has also built Celest, a data platform that turns gameplay into cognitive performance insights for researchers and clinicians. Other projects include Restore, made with the University of Stirling, the Nestlings financial literacy games, and research tools for Alzheimer's Research UK.
The studio was founded in 2013, and Glitchers Ltd, originally named Glitche.rs Ltd, was incorporated that September. Sea Hero Quest was nominated for a BAFTA in the Game Beyond Entertainment category, and the studio says it has won more than 75 awards. In 2022 GLITCHERS received a £25,000 grant from the UK Games Fund.
