Entropyst is a Glasgow clean-energy technology company developing equipment to produce low-carbon hydrogen. It is based at the Inspire Hub in the University of Strathclyde’s Graham Hills Building and grew out of research supported by the university.
Its main technology, the HyWand reactor, is a compact electrified unit that converts methane into hydrogen and solid carbon materials, with later development extending to ammonia. The company is aiming it at industrial users looking to reduce emissions from gas, with the carbon output offering a saleable by-product. Work is moving towards commercial pilots.
ENTROPYST LTD was incorporated in Scotland in January 2025 and is led by chief executive Dr Arash Badakhsh. The company has worked through Strathclyde’s commercialisation process and Strathclyde Inspire programmes. It won the top £15,000 Wild Card award in Scottish EDGE Round 26 and has received a Commercialisation Initiative Award for knowledge exchange.
