Highland Boundary is a small distillery on Kirklandbank Farm near Alyth in Perthshire, making botanical spirits, liqueurs, syrups, and cocktail bitters flavoured with wild Scottish plants. The farm sits on the Highland Boundary Fault, the geological line between the Highlands and Lowlands, which gives the business its name.
Its first product, a Birch and Elderflower Wild Scottish Spirit, launched in October 2018 after development work with the International Centre for Brewing and Distilling at Heriot-Watt University. The range now includes further spirits, liqueurs, botanical syrups, and Wild Scottish Bitters made from 20 wild botanicals. Plants such as birch, larch, elderflower, and rosehip are hand-picked on the farm and in nearby woodland, and the company also offers a cocktail bar service for events.
The business was founded in 2016 by Dr Marian Bruce, a former biodiversity researcher, and Simon Montador, and distils in a converted milking parlour on the farm. Its spirits are sold online and through stockists in Scotland. Birch and Elderflower received a gold medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition in 2019.
