Ferguson Marine operates the Newark Works shipyard in Port Glasgow, continuing a Clyde shipbuilding tradition associated with the site for more than a century. The yard builds vessels and provides fabrication and engineering capability from its Inverclyde waterfront location.
The Ferguson story at Newark dates to 1903, when the Ferguson brothers formed Ferguson Shipbuilders and secured early tug contracts. The operation has changed ownership and structure several times since then. It was taken into public ownership by the Scottish Government in December 2019 and now trades as Ferguson Marine (Port Glasgow) Limited. Recent work has included the construction of large ferries for Scotland’s west-coast network, alongside plans to modernise the yard for future vessel and engineering contracts.
The current company is registered in Scotland under SC638457. Newark Works on Castle Road is both its registered and operational address, with public enquiries handled directly by the Port Glasgow team.
