Kenoteq is an Edinburgh company that makes low-carbon building materials from recycled construction and demolition waste. Its office is at Citypoint on Haymarket Terrace. The business spun out of Heriot-Watt University and was co-founded by Professor Gabriela Medero and Dr Sam Chapman.
Its main product is the K-BRIQ, an unfired brick made from recycled rubble, brick, mortar, plasterboard, and pigments. A thinner K-SLIP brick slip is offered for facades, modular construction, and interior walls. Kenoteq sells directly and through a small number of merchants, usually manufacturing to order, and offers colour and shape development for larger projects.
The K-BRIQ holds a British Board of Agrément certificate for the UK and DrJ accreditation for the US. Projects using the products include Scotland's National Retrofit Centre in Glasgow, the NHS New Velindre Cancer Centre in Cardiff, and a Kaufland store in Germany. The company also runs monthly online CPD sessions on its materials.
