Space Intelligence is an Edinburgh company that produces maps of forests, habitats, and land cover from satellite data. Its work supports nature-based carbon projects, deforestation-free supply chains, and conservation planning. The company is based at Henry Duncan House on George Street and also lists an office in Singapore.
Its mapping combines optical and radar satellite imagery with machine learning, checked against local ground data. Carbon project developers, investors, and credit buyers use the maps to assess a project's feasibility, risks, and performance both before and after credits are issued. The company has also produced forest and deforestation baseline maps for cocoa supply chains in Ivory Coast, including field validation visits.
Space Intelligence was incorporated in Scotland in 2018. It is led by chief executive Dr Murray Collins and chief scientist Professor Ed Mitchard. For NatureScot, it produced land cover maps of Scotland for 2019, 2020, and 2022 using its HabitatMapper product, covering almost 7.5 million hectares.
