MedAscend is a Dundee-based education technology company developing AI-supported clinical simulation for healthcare training. It provides realistic simulated patient and professional conversations that universities and training providers can use for practice, feedback, and assessment.
The platform allows educators to create curriculum-aligned scenarios and marking rubrics, while learners practise consultations by voice or video. MedAscend also supports OSCE-style circuits, feedback linked to consultation transcripts, cohort analytics, and simulated patient-record activities across disciplines including medicine, nursing, pharmacy, and dentistry.
Medical Ascend Limited was incorporated in Scotland in July 2024 and is based on Abbotsford Street in Dundee. The company was founded by University of Dundee medical students Ahmed Sharaf and Hana Woods. A 2025 pilot with the university's medical school involved 300 active students completing more than 2,000 simulated consultations, providing an early large-scale test of the platform. The company is also developing partnerships and institutional rollouts beyond its initial Dundee deployment.
