Bank of Scotland is a bank headquartered at The Mound in Edinburgh, providing personal, business, and private banking. It is the trading name of Bank of Scotland plc, a company registered in Scotland and a subsidiary of Lloyds Banking Group plc. The bank is authorised by the Prudential Regulation Authority and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority and the Prudential Regulation Authority.
Through its business banking arm it works with companies ranging from start-ups and SMEs to large corporates, and it also runs a dedicated private banking service. Halifax is a division of Bank of Scotland plc rather than a separate company, which means the Scottish-registered company also carries the Halifax brand.
The bank says it has served customers, businesses, and communities in Scotland for more than 300 years, and its registered office remains at The Mound. The current legal entity, Bank of Scotland plc, was incorporated in September 2007. Some products sold under the Bank of Scotland name, such as certain insurance, are provided by other Lloyds Banking Group companies.
