Mackintosh of Glendaveny grows, presses, and bottles cold-pressed rapeseed oil on its family farm at Glendaveny, near Peterhead in Aberdeenshire. The business was set up in 2009 by Gregor Mackintosh, who developed the idea while studying at the Scottish Agricultural College in Aberdeen.
Rapeseed is grown on the farm and bought from local farms within about 20 miles, then dried, pressed, filtered, and bottled on site. Alongside the original oil, the company makes versions infused with basil, chilli, ginger, lemon, and garlic. Retail bottles are sold through UK supermarkets and independent shops, while food service and manufacturing customers can buy bulk oil in sizes up to 1,000-litre IBC tanks.
The production site holds BRCGS food safety accreditation, and the company produces private-label oil for retailers, hotels, and restaurants. It also supplies export customers. According to the company, most of the site's power comes from biomass units and solar panels, and by-products from pressing are used as animal feed or fuel.
