McLaren Plastics is a family-run plastic injection moulding company at Pentland Industrial Estate in Loanhead, Midlothian, on the southern edge of Edinburgh. Established in 1960, it makes moulded plastic components to customer designs and also sells a line of its own stock products.
The company handles projects from early design through to volume production. Its in-house services include design-for-manufacture advice, 3D-printed prototypes, mould tool design and manufacture in its own toolroom, and secondary processes and packing. It can mould commodity, engineering, and performance polymers, as well as biopolymers and recycled material, on machines from 35 to 380 tonnes. Customers include businesses in packaging, agriculture, construction, electronics, energy, oil and gas, and healthcare.
Early work included keg caps for breweries and parts for the fishing and textile trades. Today the business serves customers across the UK and Europe. It holds ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certification and runs its factory seven days a week. It is a member of the British Plastics Federation and the Scottish Plastics & Rubber Association.
