Ninian Shetland

Ninian is a knitwear studio and gift shop on Commercial Street in Lerwick, Shetland. It designs and makes contemporary Shetland knitwear in a studio at the back of the shop and sells it in store and online.

Its own label, Joanna Hunter Knitwear, includes Fair Isle-inspired jumpers, cardigans, ponchos, hats, snoods, wrist warmers, cushions, and bags. The shop also stocks gifts, including work by Shetland designers and artists, jewellery, and ceramics. Joanna Hunter runs colour and design workshops during the year and opens the studio to visitors during Shetland Wool Week.

Joanna Hunter started her knitwear label in 1999, first selling to shops in the UK, Japan, the USA, and Scandinavia. She opened Ninian at 110 Commercial Street in 2003 and moved to larger premises further along the street in 2011. The business has traded through Ninian Shetland Ltd since 2023 and ships orders to Europe, North America, and Australia.
