Stag Bakeries is a family-run bakery on Cannery Road in Stornoway on the Isle of Lewis, making savoury biscuits, shortbread, oatcakes, and cakes. The company was formed through the merger of two established Hebridean bakery firms and describes its baking heritage on Lewis as dating back to 1885.
Its best-known products are Stornoway Water Biscuits, made in original and flavoured versions, including a seaweed range. The Seaweed Water Biscuits were named Best Scottish Speciality Product by the Guild of Fine Food in 2013. The bakery also produces all-butter cheese straws made with Scottish cheeses, fruit cakes designed for cheeseboards, and a biscuit range made with the Hebridean Baker, and it offers private-label manufacturing.
On the islands, Stag supplies bread, rolls, and other fresh bakery goods to customers across Lewis, Harris, and the Uists, and runs a mobile shop for rural communities. Further afield, its products are sold through fine food retailers in the UK and exported to markets including the USA, Canada, and the UAE. The Macdonald family has owned the business for more than 30 years.
