Studio 1718 is a furniture workshop in Dundonald, South Ayrshire, that designs and makes one-off and commissioned furniture. It works for private clients and for interior designers and architects. Projects range from single statement pieces to fully furnished interiors and work on architecturally important buildings.
Pieces are made by hand in the Ayrshire workshop using traditional cabinet-making methods. Upholstery, metalwork, and decorative finishes come from partner craftspeople in Scotland and abroad. The studio's portfolio includes work at Trump Turnberry in Ayrshire and a hospitality commission in Hong Kong. The business ships furniture to clients across Europe, North America, and Asia.
The studio is led by founder Michael Mancini. He started out as an apprentice in furniture restoration at the Old Curiosity Shop in Ayr, then trained as a cabinet maker in Glasgow. A piece he made at the end of his apprenticeship won a prize from the Incorporation of Wrights. The studio's designs draw on Scottish history and materials, the founder's Italian family background, and the furniture of Thomas Chippendale and Sir Edwin Lutyens. Susan Mancini runs operations.
