Heddle Construction is a civil engineering, construction, and crane hire company based on Grainshore Road at Hatston Industrial Estate in Kirkwall, Orkney. It works on construction, utilities, and renewable energy projects across the islands.
Its construction work covers commercial and agricultural buildings, steel frame buildings, steel fabrication, and improvement works, from small jobs to design and build contracts. In civil engineering it has completed water storage and sewage projects for Scottish Water and builds transformer bases and buildings for SSE. The company also runs crane hire with a fleet of Liebherr cranes, plant hire and sales, haulage, and support services for wind and marine energy projects.
The family business was formed in 1972 by Ian Heddle to build farm buildings and is now led by his son, Derek Heddle. It employs more than 20 staff at its Kirkwall base. The current company, Heddle Construction Limited, was incorporated in 2013.
