FFS International is an industrial process engineering business working from Dalgety Bay in Fife. It designs, builds and commissions processing plant, with particular experience in recovering and refining waste oils and tars. It also advises industrial clients on improving their existing processes.
Its technical work has focused on recycling used lubricating oil. This includes a high-temperature, high-pressure plug flow reactor for supercritical processing, first built as a prototype in 2015. Current activity combines consultancy with a research programme, starting with a new pilot reactor for processing different feedstocks.
The business traces its roots to Fuel Firing Systems, founded in South Africa in 1974 by Tony and Diane Hurter. The FFS International name was launched in 2013 after the family sold its controlling stake in that company. Euan Hurter, Tony Hurter’s grandson, is based in Scotland and is the director of FFS INTERNATIONAL (UK) LTD, incorporated in November 2024.
